How to connect the PS4 controller to the iPhone or iPad?

With the new iOS 13, Apple added support for controllers to work with the iPhone or iPad. Many people still confused about paring the controllers with the iPhone or iPad.

So how do you actually connect your controllers with the iPhone or iPad? Here, I will explain how to do it. Please note that the games will only support controllers that are MFI ( Made for iOS). However, PS4 and Xbox one controllers come under these criteria.

With the launch of Apple Arcade, there are a ton of games like Assemble with Care, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Grindstone, Oceanhorn 2, Exit the Gungeon to try out with the external controllers. And also the other top-rated games on App store like Fortnite and asphalt 9.

If you’re a Fortnite player, using a controller will gain you an advantage over other enemies.

How to pair the PS4 or Xbox controller to the iPhone or iPad using the iOS 13?

It’s very easy to pair the controllers to the iPhone or iPad. It’s simple like pairing a Bluetooth headset.

On your PS4 Controller, you should

  1. Turn on the pairing mode by pressing and holding the PS button until the light flashes. Once the PS4 controller is in pairing mode it should appear on your iPhone or iPad

On your iPhone or iPad, you should

  1. Go to Settings -> Bluetooth Settings
  2. You should see the PS4 controller on the Other device section under Bluetooth settings.
  3. Tap it to get it paired

On your Xbox Controller, you should

  1.  Turn on the pairing mode by pressing and holding the connect button. Once the Xbox controller is in pairing mode it should appear on your iPhone or iPad

On your iPhone or iPad, you should

  1. Go to Settings -> Bluetooth Settings
  2. You should see the Xbox controller on the Other device section under Bluetooth settings
  3. Tap it to get it paired

Once the controller is paired, you can play any games that support MFI ( Made for iOS) controllers. However, not all the functionality of the gamepads are supported. It’s because the iOS doesn’t have a matching counterpoint to the non-functioning buttons on the gamepad. A simple update could enable the non-functioning keys but for now, it’s the simple controller to play with.
